I count to one hundred all by myself. We go to visit Grandma and Grandpa Brubaker and everyone is watching Baby Michelle. I’m sitting on Grandpa’s lap and I wonder how you count to a hundred. That’s a lot of numbers. I count to ten in my head. Then I know eleven, twelve up to twenty. Then thirty-one, thirty-two. Then comes forties. Then fifties. I count the sixties and the seventies and eighties. Then comes nine so I count all the nineties, but I get stuck when it ends at ninety-nine. I wonder if one hundred is next and I think it might be.

I say, “Grandpa,” but Grandpa is talking.

I say, “Grandpa” again but Grandpa is still talking and if I pester him, Mommy will tell me about it later.

I have to wait until he gets done and says, “What?” to ask him what comes after ninety-nine.

Grandpa says, “A hundred.”

I can’t believe it. I did it! I counted to a hundred all by myself right here in Grandpa’s lap and it wasn’t even hard!
